Long ago I wore the patch for both AFCS (Air Force Communications Service) and then AFCC (Air Force Communications Command). Both had a lot more responsibilities than secure comm. They were also responsible for such things as Air Traffic Control, Navigational Aids, Airbase Comm, and Mobile Comm.

Back then we always said that AFCS really stood for Alcohol First, Communications Second. But that was a long time ago.
