I was late in providing links to supporting articles When I finally did provide links, I got into an interesting discussion on technical issues and government security standards. The issue was unresolved. I came across the attached article that gives some more details of the technical background of the White House lost emails. My take on it is that the White House support staff is either intentionally or actually incompetent. This article does not reflect well on the government IT support services. I get the impression it is nothing more than a fishing expedition to try and "get" Bush. Nothing more than an extreme case of Bush Derangement Syndrome, by a bunch of political hacks. Unless they have a legitimate reason for seeking the emails they should be told to take a long walk on a short pier. *Patriot first, Conservative second, Republican third. . .*

I am sure if the attackers of the Bush administation use selective emails to unfairly, the defenders can quickly point out the unfairness of the email selection. This is not a partisian issue. If the Democrats get in power, I want to have access to their emails only Note the importance of the tapes on the Watergate problem

To allow these to be had for partisan political reasons is dumb. Unless a legitimate legal or academic reason can be shown, they should be considered private correspondences. A full disclosure of emails allows the defense as well as the attack on an administration. I am sure if the attackers of the Bush administation use selective emails to unfairly, the defenders can quickly point out the unfairness of the email selection. That is like saying a person should not have the right to not incriminate himself, but should have to answer all question put so that if the prosecution uses self-incriminating statements the defendant can use other parts of it to refute the charge.
