It'll be in Homebush and I'll be expecting to work long and late. So, any suggestions for nice suburbs near there? I'd rather commute on back streets on my pushbike, but I do need to be able to drive as well, probably in the rush hour. Previous experience suggests that Drummoyne is a bit too quiet and characterless for my tastes. I prefer quiet but characterful pubs, and decent restaurants.

Sydney is not the best place to commute in rush hour(s) on a pushbike. If you would go as far as Drummoyne what about Balmain, Haberfield etc? Let me think about it and look at a map and I'll get back to you. BTW, by Homebush do you mean Sydney Olympic Park or thereabouts? Jonathan

Looks like I am on the hoof too. Orange, NSW, for a turn of residential work. No more two flights a week business.

I lived down the road at Parkes for three years. Best winery in the area is Bell River, on the road to Wellington. If you are going to work at Cadia mine, be aware that it is in real danger of closing due to lack of water. Water supply issues have already seen a scaling back of production, with some job losses.
