(I was reading about the Spanish Civil War and the Greek Military Junta!) The badge came to me complete; and I scribbled it down as soon as I woke up, and the colours were wheilst I was sleeping just shades of grey. ...the fictional 'coup' against the Wilson government actually happens... Louis Mountbatten has ruled the country as President of the Council, First Lord of the Treasury for five years, with the Committee of Eight beneath him acting as his Cabinet. This is the upper echelon of the National Unity Council, (NUC) which also has a plenary body of thirty senior Army Officers and politicians who, as those in the Committee of Eight; were identified as being "loyal" and with the nations best interests at heart. the Committee of Eight includes Secretaries for: Regional Co-ordination, the Interior & Justice, of Defence, of the Treasury, of Economic Stability, of Information, and for Health. As promised when he assumed power; that within ten years his administration will hold a referendum on returning to normal, parliamentary government; the national referendum is only days away. If 'Yes': Earl Mountbatten will tender his resignation to the Queen and parliamentary elections will be held at the end of next month. If 'No': Earl Mountbatten will govern for no longer than two more years before handing the reins over to someone who has the "loyalty, desire and ability neccessary to drive this nation forward" Fe godwn ni eto

A task she still has yet to complete... This map shows the immediate weeks after the seizure of power. It indicates areas areas already under direct military rule as well as areas where there has been significant, TU orchestrated rioting and violence. The Queen has spoken to the nation, asking her subjects to support the armed forces in their attempt to return the country to an economically stable state but despite this there has been unrest throughout the nation. In Northern Irelans, there has been an intense wave of Republican attacks. As may be expected, the full functioning of the new government has yet to begin. Under heavy guard, "loyal" and "trustworthy" Home Office Officials are fitting out Regional Government Headquarters throughout the country which were designed to ensure the continuance of government during a nuclear war. From these sites, loyal Lieutenants of Mountbatten will run their regions, and liase with remaining civilian authorities and the military present. The whereabouts of the Earl himself are unknown. So far, there have been very few deaths; numbering no more than fifty. However, there have been a significant number of 'disapearences'. Fe godwn ni eto

I see Fife is under direct military rule, I'd have thought that the area around Faslane might have been under military control. I do feel sorry for the Shetlanders having to put up with subversives, though. We can also say good-bye to co-operation with the Republic of Ireland over the IRA.

I don't know; Faslane the base would clearly be under heavy guard and possibly even lockdown... I was also unsure as to wether the Navy would acquiesce or co-operate with the Army or whatever. I must confess that securing Naval bases didn't really enter into my head until late: when I made sure Pompey got direct rule... I was working on: 1. Paratroops drop on Heathrow (as they actually did, during a 'exercise'/show of force for Harold Wilsons benefit) Buck House and some other key points within London. In Cardiff the soldiers from Maindy Barracks seize the port as well as the roads leading in and out of the city. In Edinburgh (I've got a horrible feeling I didn't check where E'burgh is on the map and just guessed...) troops seize key points there too. 2. Troops seize key factories, pits, etc etc to ensure the economy of the country continues. I envisiage mass strikes being broken by a mixture of carrot and stick. Mainly the stick, to be quite honest. For a while the Coup that was meant to ensure the countries economic stability is going to result in mass economic unrest. However, once the Security Services, directed by the shadowy Internal Security Committee (a sub committee of the Committee of Eight) get invovled and 'snatch' some of the orchestrators of the strikes things begin to get better. 3. I guess I should have seized Faslane, but an in character explanation may be that the Army didn't know what their response might be so wanted to avoid unnessecary bloodshed, and or kind of hoped that the Navy would be on their side anyway. As for the ordinary people; I hope that the Queen coming out and telling them to support the government might help, as might a fixed promise of "this is how long we are going to be in control". By the end of the first week of military rule, the Earl will address the nation and lay out his ten point plan for the future... Mhmm, I really enjoyed thinking about all this! Fe godwn ni eto

The RAF is another matter, if they don't co-operate then no parachute drops, and remember that they'll remember that the Earl was at least in part responsible for axing the TSR.2. The thing is I can't for the life of me remember whether the V-bombers still had responsibility for the deterrent, or whether it been handed over to the navy at the time of the coup.

No paradrops would retard it somewhat indeed; unless the Army could get hold of their own A/C; which would probably be far too obvious Fe godwn ni eto
